car dying on track

Recommended Posts

hi guys after a bit of knowledge.

I took my wrx to a pukekohe track and it ran alright for most of it but at the end of the day it

was starting to die on track.

first time on acceleration out of hairpin it fully cut out managed to coast into pit lane where it fired up

took it into pits checked it out seemed allgood so took it out to test went good for about 3 laps then same thing

accelerating onto back straight wouldn\'t start so pulled onto grass and stopped after bout 10 secs tried key started and ran fine so back into pits everything seems good but put it on trailer and went home. :(

since then have taken it for drive down road no worrys,

so has any experienced any thing similar or have any ideas. ???

no I haven\'t.

thank you I was thinking maybe fuel surge but thought it might have sort of spluttered or something rather than just dying

will a larger intank fuel pump work or do I need an external surge tank and fuel pump do you think?

Only reason I ask about the pump is that aftermarket ones seem to come with smaller socks which have given people trouble. If it is surge, and unless you are building a race car, just fill it up for track days. Cheapest and easiest solution. You don\'t want to risk leaning out.

+1 fuel surge, mine was doing it coming out of turn 1 at hampton downs, same thing and cut out on the straight bit after it. Thought I had broken the car and panicked, but it turned back on again after. Was also showing about 1/4 when not moving, went and filled up and it was fine.

It\'s fuel surge dude I had exactly the same in mine at Pukekohe and the same place, the next time i went and it did it the engine blew. Highly reccomend you get upgraded in tank fuel pump but definitely fuel surge tank it\'s cheap enough and well worth it for track day. Even if you fill the tank I would still fit one its not worth the risk.

If nothing else it\'s a good way to avoid nuking motors (baffling / surge tank)

As ballsrburning said it can kill them - if it goes from gas to *no gas* in an instant then it just won\'t go, worse will be if it just get starved briefly and splutters etc - then it goes mental lean for a couple seconds and things potentially go kablooey

Surge Tank FTW . I can run around ruapuna for several laps with the fuel light on and no issues :D

urgh. jealous. the balance of my car improves drastically with a low fuel load, its always where I get my quickest laptimes.

unfortunately there is about a 3 lap window between being quick and having fuel surge, and this is with >20L in the tank *cries*

the lining you are using, what is its function?

yeah I\'ve lost 3rd gear to the shock loading. nasty

put a walbro 500 at the least in there

and run as much gas as u can really

i have never run less than 1/2 on track days despite the whole thing weighing bit more

I had the walbro in mine I still got surge under half a tank and it still went bang. if your tracking your car you really should put a surge tank in.

I just don\'t think that is reasonable advice for the majority of occasional track day people. Just treat half tank as empty. Occasional trackday\'ers aren\'t chasing the last 1/100th; chances are they aren\'t even getting timed.

For me it was a safety issue , getting surge out of the sweeper on full throttle is asking for something to go bang.

If you can\'t afford to put a surge tank in your car then you really shoudln\'t be tracking it.

Mine blew up after only 2 track days and in total 10 laps (first track was dual sprints 2nd track open day) not a timed event just a standard open day. When this happened i was just the occasional track person, it was only my second ever visit to a track and the tank was always 3/4 or above full when I started the day.

I\'m just trying to stop people blowing the engine like I did and saving them a fortune, for such a small outlay it\'s worth it and not at all unresonable.

And it blew due to leaning out from surge? Or oil starvation ...

I guess a dry sump is mandatory for tracking too. After all, I bet it is less expensive than what a lot of you guys have spent on motors yes? Especially the guys who are onto their second/ third ...

Engine builder put it down to fuel surge, not oil starvation. There\'s a huge difference between a dry sump set up and a fuel surge tank. One is resonable cost the other is you being facetious.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
