And yet Honda are sending the CR-Z to the states with a 6-Speed

And it looks a wee bit more evil that the STI......time to switch to the darkside?

Only if they can make a hybrid sporty...

It's starting to look like a rennaisance for Japanese sports cars; FT86, CRZ, Lexus LFA.

;D

I've been in one of those...earlier in the year. The lovely guys at Car Do dropped Dad and I off at the train station in a red one, instead of calling a cab (now THAT'S service!)

It was pretty damn boring to be honest. It just sounds WRONG hearing an STi changing through the gears with a slushbox.

Damn things are too soft and squishy... heck, my Dad loves it... and he's the biggest nanna of them all :P

Edit: This one in fact.

Looks okay, drives like a sack of arse.

Sorry but I don't understand what the issue is here. They are still being offered with a 6MT. Obviously there is a market for an auto option, a-la EVO GT-A. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Or is that just too obvious??

Wouldn't even make a good taxi with that low rent interior, crappier than most taxis I've been in.

:D

Fair enough, but most sports cars are doing this now. Ferrari etc

No comparison.

Ferrari et al are using variations on the dual-clutch sequential gearbox theme.

The Soob uses a conventional automatic.

A world of difference in how they perform.

Yes.

;D

It's further dilution of STI tradition as Subaru sinks deeper and deeper into mass market mediocrity.

ok, i cant believe i am saying this, but i can handle them having an auto in the STI, i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole, and i would point and laugh at anyone who bought one.

the issue i have is why they make a up-spec version with a carbon roof and all these racey goodies then chuck a slush-box in them, that is whats criminal here, make the slush-boxers who want racey STI either buy the lowest spec STI, or maker them learn how to actually DRIVE.

also, an auto is an auto. unless its got metal on metal gears that drive against each other, i dont trust it. sequential is fine, but when they make an auto, and call it 'tiptronic' etc it pisses me off. ITS AN AUTO!!! MUTTON DRESSED AS LAMB!!!

i love gearboxes, i love shifting, i love actually DRIVING, and not just being a passenger to what a bunch of belts and pulleys tell me what to do and what gear i should be in. i dont care about rush hour traffic, and having to change gear 2000 times on my way to work, because quite frankly i hate the thought of the alternative!!!

thats my rant, anyone wanna defend the autos???

Three excellent points brought up here.

1) It's a CONVENTIONAL auto. There is no excuse for this.

2) DILUTION of the STi... perfect word.

3) Pointing and laughing at anyone enough of a muppet to buy an auto STi? Yes please.

It's very...American. Huge power, than water down the interface so every inbred and his 35 children can drive it. The Legacy GTB is of course meant to have an auto option, because that's the kind of vehicle it is. It's often owned by people like our parents, with a mean streak. The STi though? Goddamn. They should rename it the Subaru Impreza WRX White Elephant - it's nothing more than a STATUS SYMBOL FOR THE LAZY! (Lookit meh, I has STi plz)

I like autos, they have their place. Their place being on the end of a big lazy torquey motor. Ive never seen one work well in a performance sense on a small displacement turbo.

Ive got nothing against Subaru for offering an auto, hell they can offer any kind of STI they want - as long as theres still a balls to the wall serious option. Which in this case seems to have also disappeared.

I think its great, now that guy who lost the use of his Left leg in the MotoX accident can have an STi. Or women.

If it helps them sell more cars then its a good decision.

The only people who complain about it are people* who are not likely to be in the market to purchase a brand new car anyways.

*i'd be willing to bet that not one person who has posted in this thread will be looking to purchase a brand new car in the next 5years**.

** I'm sure some of you could, easily, but is it something you are planing on***

*** and does the auto STi make the regular one you would have been looking at less appealing

i love the 2008-2009 sti hatches, and i WILL be buying one, when they come down in price a bit more or if i win lotto. but if i was looking through trademe in a few years time and there was a cheap as STI, and i was all keen that i could finally afford another dream car......then it turns out it was an AUTO??? i would be profoundly pissed!!!

how long have the rally cars had a sequential box??? couldnt they design one for the STI??? then even the people in autos could drive them AND, it would keep all of us happy(salivating???)

but good point about an amputee, but im sure even they would like a sequential box, especially if they are into performance

subaru have made soooo many technical advancements over the years and always seem to be ahead of the curve when it comes to performance....so why are they lacking in this area???

At least it's a 5 speed auto though, and I think I'm right when I say that this is the first auto sti subby have made so we can only hope for more advances in the trans department with it. In Subaru's defense whats the point in spending a whole heap of time and money developing a specific tranny for this sti when the auto option might become a flop anyway (we can only hope!), the way I see it is they're just testing the waters so to speak and come on there must be some kind of demand out there for an auto option or they wouldn't have done it - am I right?

I personally think it's quite nice jumping into an auto after changing gears 300 times in my car just to get to the shop so I think auto's have there place but cant say I'll be putting the auto sti on my Xmas wish list lol.

they have ? i can't think of any

If anything they are behind the performance curve and the current trend is not looking promising

well, i took one out for a blat, and the dealer told me to give it some death, i did, and he told me to give it more....so i did. anyone who says they arent fun hasnt launched one of them or gone around a corner at unimaginable speeds, the smile on my face was the only reason i needed to put one on my wishlist. of course it could be better, but luckily, its a performance car, so there will be loads of parts for them in the future and who on here has disliked something about their car, so theyve upgraded said part???

at the end of the day, its all about preference and how the car makes YOU feel. a lot of people think the bc5 looks ugly or the bugeye impreza doesnt look right. but i love them, doesnt make me wrong.

i will admit that some other cars have better technology, but again, in my opinion, a lot of it takes away from the raw driving feel, im not big on driver aids. but i am beginning to be old-school now. for example, im not a big fan of the WRC having cars in them that we will never see on the street, seems to have killed off the competition lately... gone are the days of the ford escort rs/toyota celica gt4/lancia delta/subaru impreza/mitsi evo type cars that you could see racing on the sunday and go and buy on the monday, it made you feel connected to motorsport, and that your cars were part of it.

now all we get is a 2 make competition that have no actual relation to the cars that drive on the street.

maybe this is why all we get is a slushbox STI. theres no real reason to push the envelope of the technology.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
