BPE down on power

Hi all

i bought a bpe earlier this year for baby duties and it's been a great car, only issue is it seems a bit down on power, has anybody experienced this? It is by no means slow it just doesn't feel quite as powerful as it should... I've scanned it for faults etc and it comes up fine. I gave it a huge service when we bought it (plugs, air filter, trans flush) so I know that's all good. Tempted to get the coils tested as a next step. Do these suffer from afm issues? Also the avcs filter issue are these affected? Is there any way to check the avcs is working correctly? I have a decent launch scan tool at my disposal which does a lot but haven't managed to find any data on cam position etc. is there a different system I can use?

thanks in advance for any help

How Many kms? would definitley make sure your AFM is clean as well and what fuel do you run it on?

It's a 3.0. Bought it at 143000 done 150000 now. Runs on 95 I'll pull afm and check it out. I priced a new genuine one which wasn't too bad just want to make sure it isn't going to be a waste. I've got a mate in palmy with the same car I'm seeing on Sunday I might try swap it briefly

95 octane will be fine - Im not saying you should replace it but definitely give it a clean with AFM Cleaner - otherwise - definitely try the option with your mate - also i cant say for sure it is your AFM - but its the only thing i can think of  at the moment

Note - I also had a 3.0R Legacy and by cleaning my AFM made it more responsive

So guess you haven't got access to a tactrix cable or vagcom? That'd be the best way to check everything is working. Can log AVCS along with OCV to see if its all doing as it should, not sure exactly how AVLS works on these engines though.

That'll show how much it's had to retard timing to account for the 95 fuel aswell.

Don't want to hijack anything but all you lads on here that have the 3L 6 cylinder goodness, what are you running in the way of fuel octane and have you noticed a difference between 95-98?

If it is a Jap import id tend to only ever run it on 98 as they run them on 100 over there, or is that a false perception i have just because I've had horrid experience with the turbo models and low octane? then there is the differences of RON and MON and oh who knows what but in japan they also rate fuel on the whole RON scale yea?

I only run 98 in my BPE, especially after i had it tuned by matt.

Just buy a cheap Vag-com cable and either install freessm or get the btssm app an android device and you can pretty much read all important sensors, read codes, reset engine and transmission learnt values.

Get this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/USB-KKL-409-1-Cable-For-OBDII-OBD2-Car-Diagnostic-Scanner-XI-FTSS-YYK-/152148563022?hash=item236cc2d44e

and if you want to use the BTSSM app (You can do logging and it has knock detection/warnings) you need to get this

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CABDNX6019/Dynamix-C-U2-OTG-10cm-USB-20-Micro-B-Male-to-Type

For less than $20 you get peace of mind and a whole lot of data to comb over.
