Anti-freeze disposal ?

Hey,

 

I have coolant to dispose, the Repco close to my place doesn't take it.

Where do you guys go ?

Transfer station ?

Could be an idea. I might ask Subtech what they do with used coolant and see what they come up with.

I've been told when I looked into it, to pour it down the toilet, some town/city sewerage systems are designed to handle it.

Unless I'm 100% sure that it can be done in Auckland, I would rather pay for disposal than taking the risk.

Poor mother nature if the sewerage systems are not designed for that

Subtech offered me to bring it to them.

S*** no, did anyone else have the pleasure (pain of being forced) to watch 20/20 the other week, lady poisoned her Husband & son with a few teaspoons of it in their coke, true story, they didn't survive & one of their daughters nearly didn't live either

Im pretty sure you can drop it off at any repco for disposal.

Mum and Dads cat died of suspected antifreeze poising, they reckon it might have drunk some out of a puddle under a leaking car

yea not nice at all, tho My nearest repco is 45 mins away & sure as heck most people in Auckland will take 45 mins to go anywhere too

Back when I was living in Freeman's Bay in Auckland someone was putting out a saucer of antifreeze to 'cull the feline population'. They like it because it's sweet.

After reading this thread I did a bit of googling, and this website, which is the service that collects from Repco etc... just says engine oil

On the AA website it said they do antifreeze as well. Maybe they used too but don't any more. Never thought to check the date of the post

Been doing a little bit of a search on the Internet and the only place that I could find that takes old coolant is Bowaters Toyota in Nelson. But might be worth calling around local workshops to see if they will take it.

I saw the same post on the AA website, brought my coolant to the local repco, the guy said they don't take it and he had no clue as to where I could dispose it. Your experience could vary depending of the repco you go to though ?

I do find it strange that there is no drop off places for something as bad as antifreeze. I don't think a lot of people realize how toxic it is. I even check our local council Eco depot where they take oil and batteries but nothing else.

I have just emailed the Eco Depot in Christchurch to see if they take it or if not where or how to dispose of it safely
