If twin turbo - there are marginal gains from opening it up to 3" from the Y pipe back and cost will be $100 for pipe if you DIY and several hundred if you're paying someone?? Call and ask an exhaust shop

You can get downpipes from Rage which cost a bundle

Thanks Marky, it is the twin turbo. Realise the gains will be minimal, more just wanting to get the boxer sound through as currently, compared to other CS guys in the Chch area, you would hardly know it's a subaru :-( Unless of course just changing the muffler will get a nicer sound from her??

Different mufflers make a big difference, you can get legacys to be very loud with just a muffler change as the factory exhaust from memory doesn't really have any resonators in it to start with

Getting both cats removed adds a lot to the volume (and backfireyness), any old cannon muffler should take care of the volume side of it. Some work better than others... you want one which doesn't work so well obviously

McGill's set up is just an aftermarket canon muffler and nothing else.

See if you can rob a muffler off a legacy at Richards.

My one has a large diameter zerosports catback and in my opinion that sounds the tits, probably is mainly down to the muffler though. Definately no need to go any closer to the turbo than that, would probably cause some hectic boost spikes if not tuned aswell

Having stuttering/shuddering issues between 2000 and 3000 RPM. Most likely to be MAF or spark plugs? Or both? More noticeable when car is cold.

Maf is pretty good at causing that but spark plugs are pretty easy so worth checking anyway

Thanks. On that note, best to get PFR6G or the BKR7EIX plugs? - it's on a V7 STI with a tune. Heard you need to go colder on a tuned engine.

Yeah go for the 7 range with an STI. Could be the O2 sensor/coolant sensor playing up also, but try another MAF first.

Put the same brand/heatrange plugs in that it had when it was tuned.

so i went for a wof today and i failed on 3 exhaust leaks which i knew of turns out theres a hole in the cat at the mid section i got it priced by a exhaust speciallist to fixed and they qouted $200+ labour. So i found another exhaust sytem from a wreckers which i found out is catless. (cat been cut out and pipe welded in) that i wanted to just put in instead of payingh someone to weld up exhaust and put new cat in.My cat has a sensor going to i thunk its a sesnsor so if i use this new exhaust which ive paid for what do i do with the wire going to it?

Lol! I got a muffler but if Richard has BE5 parts then I definitely need to be nice to him. submarine Spares are somewhat pricey…. :-(

what is it? exhaust temp sensor? or an 02? is it not needed?

does anyone know if manual or auto exhausts are different in the BG models?

Most likely a temp sensor for the cat. Unplug it and go for a drive to see if any CEL comes up. Might not even need to be plugged in since the conversion.
