Information as to the de-bricking of ecu\'s. This seemed the most logical place. Not sure if/how much it directly applies to our non-usdm models but good information nontheless

Old bump.

I was told that de-bricking only works on 32-bit ECU. I believe 32-bit started with Version 8.

so the topic came up on FB recently which triggered a question in me that i thought might inspire some level of discussion.

at what point (on v7+ STI) does it become beneficial to actually move up to a Link/Haltech/aftermarket standalone over the factory ECU (if ever)?

are there benefits in safety of one over the other? ease of tunability in links is a given, but shouldnt affect the tune quality if you find someone who knows what they're doing either way presumably.

This has been covered many times.

Finding someone who can reflash your subaru well in NZ is the issue...besides dtech, rapid or sas. Not sure if pbms do or not @PBMS

yip they reflash factory ECUs also. Not trying to start an argument about which is better or any of that, the nerd in me loves the links interface and the ease of logging stats not that i'm a fanboy or that it wasn't without it's own problems lol. was honestly just trying to figure out tangible benefits and at what point one would normally expect to transition across to an aftermarket / motorsport ECU.

have you got the digital gauges running on yours yet? i hooked my link up to my mates tablet (which runs windows software) and he managed to pull up digital gauges

made me want to get a tablet of my own and mount it in the glovebox or something - then i remembered how much my car has cost me and will cost me while im away, then i just didnt do it. but still looks pretty high tech :P

abit like this but not quite, couldnt figure out how to get it like this pic

yeah i was super tempted, was looking on trademe for windows tablets with gps etc. built in for a carputer project (link software not available on android far as i know) but ditched the idea as just like you, car is costing me fair bit on other random performance mods that are taking my fancy lately. for now i just have it onboard logging or carry my laptop with me if i feel like logging a ride

Its sort of a how long is a piece of string question

Everyone has their preferences, some are happy to work around the stock ecu and others prefer the blank slate of a link etc

Theres not much the stock ecu can't do that a link can, but the way to do it can be a bit of a headache compared to a standalone

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
