should really ask in the dumb question thread but what the benefits of adjusting your cams i've been told it makes the car sound better more lumpy and it will give you a better rev range is this correct or can someone explain it better?

:o :o :o magics!

anyway.. goes something like this.

The actual cam shafts inside your rocker covers (the cams) when you change those to radically different measurements - ie 272's / 264's this causes lumpy idle and gives you more repsonse up top - generally at the expense of down low power. (he bigger you go)... i think factory spec is something like 245 for reference?

You can also put on adjustable cam wheels (these are on the outside but under the black covers on the front) and what your cam belt runs on, in factory spec on subarus you find that the timing of 2( i think its two, not 1) of the wheels is 1/2 tooth out on the cambelt markings. This causes the cam shafts to be at slightly different timing across the four heads cams (eheheh edit: i mean the four cams, not 4 heads :P) on either the intake or exhaust cam shafts. You can still make great power on factory set up, but by having adjustable cam wheels you can get the timing identical on each cam shaft making your motor slightly more 'harmonious' and will net small gains if you tune via ecu.

you can also set the wheels to slight advance or retard if you wanted - but i dont know enough about the ins and outs of what that achieves to comment

can't see me doing it myself as its not something i'd like to get wrong.

I'd only do it so my car would sound more lumpy and that just isn't enough justification.

hahahah swap the leads over into the coil on one side/ bank some time... you get v8 lumpy :P

*i wouldnt drive it like that.. sounds funny though!

How many other people have had trouble with turbo water lines interfering with the ej208 block, during an ST conversion? It's sorted now through 'custom fabrication' but just curious if any others have been royally pissed off?

I have this terrible whine coming from the legacy! It started yesterday and still happening today.. its either from the exhaust or the rear left wheel i have no idea. Pretty much when I speed up it gets higher pitched up until about 40kph, then the road noise overpowers it/it goes away not sure. Then when i slow down to a stop it's terrible it gets lower pitched and stops when i stop.

not really sure how else to explain it.. no ones poked anything inside my exhaust and theres nothing on the wheel or tyre that i can see. ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY

yeah the grit is a huge issue haha. if it's around dunedin hills thats probably what it will be. I get it once or twice each time i go over to qtown.

I usually try driving and pumping the brakes, or reversing then braking kinda hard. That usually pops it out if there is a bit of grit in there. dont know if thats a good way of doing it or not but works for me haha

Iv got an sti intercooler on the car and it's got a weird probe sensor drilled and sealed to the bottom towards the manifold. I'm assuming this is an air temp sensor? Looks to be a 'tamiya' posi/negative connector at the end of the wires.

My question is 1) is there a way I can make use of this 2) why would it have been installed on it

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
