Pulled a few of the valves out to help make a decision on how much head work I needed to get Tony @ RDL to do before I bolt them onto my new shortblock. Turns out that factory heads are shite so they definitely need a tickle up.

Was interesting having a close look at the seat/bowl area before cleaning them as the grimy buildup shows which valves had been flowing better than others. i.e. one intake valve had alot of core shift in the valve seat so appeared to be flowing mostly on either side of the valve where the one in the next cylinder had one bit of a lip before the valve seat so looked reasonably even but then had one patch where about 10% of the seat was partially blocked by dodgy casting marks.

Hopefully get the heads tested on my flowbench before Tony touches them to get before and after figures ;D

Thats correct,changed mine today..edge 5/30 and genuine filter.Good for another 6 months.

found edge to be prety noisy, i'm changing to valvoline 10w40, we will see how that goes. synthetic from repco... they were having a sale hahaha

5w/30 is for later gen vehicles 2002-2003 onwards - ie BP /BL / Ver 7 etc

pbms built and told me only to use 5w/30.

yeah, the 5w30 was a bit noisy, turbo spooling noise...

drove the car quite gently till i had the money to do the oil, doing tonight.

wanted magnatec, but at nearly $20 more expensive, plus filter when i could get the valvoline including filter (repco special) i thought why the hell not.

yep i liked that stuff too but a few years ago they stopped making the 5l packs, have they brought them back tintin?

i've been using valvoline vr1 & seems good
