Engine failures - Subaru only

Post what shat itself, why - if known, km and spec of the engine. Specify if race car and pics are fun also.

Like so:

Blew a hole in #3 piston due to too much boosty w/no tuney. Stock V5 sti engine running stock J2 ecu but 30psi with a mbc. 210k.

Ran #1 b/e, unsure why just developed a knock. Stock BG5 GTB manual 130k on the engine.

Shredded cam belt when idler bearing seized on V2 wagon @ 230.000 k...Unknown service history and belt looked ok when checked prior to failure..

Replaced with new bits and drove on with no other problems until sold it..

Only time a subaru has left me stranded in 15 years ...

#1 - Oil pick up blocked up due to carbon build up as piston rings were broken, compressed block forced oil out crank seal and lack of oil to bearings seized engine. Engine had done 146,000ks

#2 - Lower coolant hose to the oil cooler sprang a leak, drained whole coolant system, superheated block, warped cylinders, cracked head gaskets and ruined engine. Engine had done around 50,000ks

#3 - thrashed by new owner, killed in less than 10,000ks (exact cause of death unknown)

Put a big hole in the side of the block no 2 cylinder standard engine at that time had a street tune only mod was link g3, downpipe, blamed on the fact it leaned out too much on track was a daily driver then thouh not a race car.

\'92 RS 140K: Bearing on cam pulley failed(someone didnt change it at 100K) . Threw cam belt. Munch Munch valves for lunch.

\'01 Blitzen 103K: Turbo then BEB. Oil Pick up had crack in a weld, so wasnt sucking up enough oil. No pressure problem, just not enough volume.

2000 BE5 265k suspect BEB still waiting for Richard to pull it apart one day to find out.

Suspect due to changing oil types around 250k to 5w30 fully synth castrol edge.

Was running previously on 10w40 castrol magnatec, genuine filters during the time I owned it.

2002 BHE GT30 EZ30. Glazed cylinders and worn rings resulting in massive oil usage and low compression on #1, 2 and 3. 200,000kms. Everything inside the motor in pristine condition. Chains looked brand new, bearings were all perfect.

1989 BC2 EJ18. Thrashed the utter piss out of it with noisy lifters due to low oil pressure. After sitting in the driveway idling making a screeching noise from the crankcase, drove it to a mates place. On the way home, #2 piston seized in the cylinder throwing the rod through the top of the block. Carried on driving until the snapped conrod jammed on the liner and locked everything up. About 220,000kms on that one.

You know it makes me laugh how many Subaru\'s do the beb and amongst other things.. I think the design of the engine needs to be revisited and sorted if it already hasn\'t been in the newer models! any way #1 bg5a auto twin turbo beb failure #2 bg5a auto twin turbo currently knocking.

People like you are the cause of the ongoing judgement of EJ engine failures from what Ive seen posted on here. The people who fuck with an engine without tuning. V8 sti is where the crossdrilled crank began I believe.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
